Another thread made me consider this matchup, Hopkins is used to the weight and Hagler never fought higher than middleweight but Hagler is in his pomp while Hops is 43.
Thoughts?

I'm on the verge of thinking that Hopkins would have been a better Super Middleweight than the ATG Middleweight he was. Consider last night (and against Tarver) where he was at least as strong as his opponent but still retained the quickness of a Middleweight. I'd take Hopkins at 170. I see that added weight helping him and hindering Hagler. Hagler was shredded at 160 but he was at least 3 inches shorter than Hopkins who has the frame for the extra weight. I'd give Hopkins a clear decision at 170. At 160, in his prime, Hagler was a great boxer in his own right. He generates more offense than Hopkins and unlike Trinidad/Tarver/Pavlik he would take Hopkins great counter shots and keep plowing in behind that double jab. I don't think Hopkins would tie him up easily either and Hagler would do some good work to the body. Hopkins intimidates and disorients guys with his supreme counterpunching. He wouldn't intimidate Hagler. Hagler by close decision.

Prime Hagler would beat that Hopkins of the Pavlik fight at 170. Hopkins looked great but is years past his best and Pavlik is no Hagler - yet. Prime for prime at 170 or 160 I´d pick Hopkins. He was just a little bit better in most things than Hagler.
