theres a reason why boxing has been around for all this time.
MMA was never a threat to boxing.

BAD has had good shows but UFC has put on as good as BAD if not better.

All I am saying is comparing Elite XC to HBO to dumb, Elite XC is second rate in mma.

All I have to say is that the Bernard Vs Pavlik fight alone last saturday had more action than the UFC 89 that was on the same night.

No surprise. After Kimbo's jaw got exposed, I expected EliteXC to fall on rocky times. He was their name.

UFC are closing there doors to him.

All I have to say is that the Bernard Vs Pavlik fight alone last saturday had more action than the UFC 89 that was on the same night.

Which one had more PPV buys? Because that's all that matters to the people that control the sport of boxing.

Boxing long ago ceased to be a sport about putting out the best fight. Case in point, all the fans that b*tch on here about fighters ducking opponents which makes up 3 out of every 4 threads on this forum (honestly, get a room). Boxing long ago went into "it's just a way to make a lot of money" mode, so boxing putting up a better fight and crowing about that is pretty ridiculous considering boxing's business model is the antithesis of that and is instead geared toward maximizing the rate of return by charging $50 for a PPV for what is half the time a crap fight.

As far as all the networks that show boxing, when was the last time there was a big fight in boxing not on PPV? You want me to get hyped about the boxing on ESPN or Versus, fine, put a decent fight or a title defense on regular TV. UFC does that occasionally, why doesn't boxing?

what happened to kimbo slice?

He walked into a girly "jab" thrown by a 205 pounder who was leaning back standing on one leg. Ray Mercer must be kicking himself.

Yeah I hate to break it to you guys but UFC pay per views last year outsold all of the boxing pay per views combined, in a year that featured superbouts like De La Hoya/Mayweather.

It's likely that UFC's numbers will far outstrip boxing this year, with Couture/Lesnar maybe getting as many as a million buys all by itself.

I love boxing, but this thread feels like a bunch of people whistling past the graveyard.

not really considering that millions of people know kimbo and gina, but can't pick out perro angulo or gamboa from a load of beaners :deal

you might not be able to compare the channels, but the fighters alone as far as popularity goes, goes to kimbo and gina....

What happened? :lol:What happened?? too many of them bums are being knocked out by jabs and other shots that SHOULDNT do the kinds of damage that they are doing....Over exposure, every day you can flip though the channels and find some clubkid or skinny kid who couldnt make his highschool wrestling team going at it.

still can't compare to all the free boxing we get to watch....

we get about 50 shows alone from telefutura...
about 20+ from showtime
about 10 from tv azteka
about 30+ from hbo
another 10 from the vs network
about 50 from espn (counting both wednesday and friday night fights)
and ppv has about 12-18 a year

The Elite XC was a second hand MMA org at best.

The UFC is not going anywhere. It's one of the smartest run businesses and highest money making franchises in any sport today. Period. End of sentence. And :deal

That said - this rivalry between MMA/UFc and boxing is purely fictitious and is wholly a fabrication of boxing fans that feel threatened by the emergence of a new fighting sport.

I am a boxing fan as well as a fan of mixed martial arts. It is OK to enjoy both.

EliteXC was a poorly managed company that probably commited felonies in their last show, MMA as a whole, and the UFC in particuarly, are still "taking over"

Not actually taking over, because both sports will always exist, its just that MMA is becoming mainstream, and hitting the right demographics.

You really cant compare one company with 200 fighters to boxing who has thousands on top of thousands. Sure MMA isnt free very much but im ok with it I have no problem paying for a PPV that has 5 fights that im very much looking forward to instead of paying 10 dollars more usually to see one fight that winds up sucking most of the time.

taking over is a strong statement, i believe the ufc is great but is not big enough to take over a whole sport, saying that if there were some more folk like dana white in boxing then maybe things would be better, whatever white does he should keep on doing it

it would be hilarious if dana signed kimbo but my hopes are high
