No, he beat Elvir Muriqi a couple months back.

Also from the same source, it's likely that Dawson will stay on the same Showtime slow and fight Diaconu.

thats cool. He would of beat the hell out of Taver anyway. Tarver is on the slide. Also, if he fights Diaconu then it'll shut up the idiots that were already starting to say Dawson was ducking him.

I'm disappointed, because this would have been a good exposure fight for Chad, but I'm not surprised. Diaconu is a better fight for him now in terms of legacy. I'm sure Tarver will probably angle for another Jones fight, or something.

agreed, I think thats why he wanted the Tarver fight. He wanted it for exposure and to get his name out there. Casual fans know Tarver from his wins over Jones. If Dawson whooped him, it puts his name out there.

The Diaconu fight is a better fight though.

The reason it's off is because the WBC forced Shaw to start the purses bids on 8/10 with Adrian Diaconu. :happy

Damn, you're right. Chad needs a big fight to get attention:
Hopkins, Tarver, Jones, even Johnson.

I wonder why Americans don't appreciate their young, talented boxers.

I really wanted to see Dawson-Tarver. I think Dawson would have gotten some nice exposure from winning that fight. Dawson has the tools to end up a star and beating Tarver would be a huge step in that direction. I also thought Tarver had a decent shot in this bout as well, though he would have probably gotten beat.

Diaconu looks to be a solid, young, powerful contender and makes for a decent fight with Dawson. I just think style wise, Diaconu is in for a long night with Dawson. Dawson-Diaconu is a decent match-up I would have personally preferred Dawson-Tarver.

Boxing ranks very low on the totem pole here in the U.S. compared with other sports. That's just how it is. You have to have big wins to gain attention, and usually that doesn't happen until late in a fighter's career.

It's too bad, because casual fans never really got to see the best of Hopkins or Mayweather (although at least he's close), among many others. I was just hoping Chad would break through by getting a win over a Roy KO culprit.

But for we real fans, I think the AD fight is better. Just not as good for Chad.

Actually, Johnson's people wanted to fight Dawson in the slot he eventually gave to Ruiz, and I thought that would have been a good move. On the other hand, I can see where Dawson's people recognize that Johnson wouldn't be a huge fight, and yet believe it or not I think he'd give Chad a fair bit of trouble.

True. But Diaconu earned his shot by TKO ing Rico Hoye in the 3rd round in a title eliminator. Whos Clinton Woods fighting next? Any word?

I din't know, that Dawson-Tarver was on.
But i don't care. Diaconu showed a better perfomance against Hoye, than Tarver against Muriqi.

I dont see any point in that. Tarver has already shown he can whup him easy, why beat him some more?

Didn't say there was a point.... Tarver was one of the names Roy mentioned and he isn't fighting anybody right now.... You think Tarver would actually tell Roy no??? I don't. Tarver would fight Roy 10 times

It's true, Tarver doesn't have a lot of options himself.

Tarver ducks Dawson, just like ducked Adamek before him. No surprise here, the milkdud will catch a beating somewhere else, if/when he steps it up in class. :good

Diaconu is by far the more interesting fight...Adrian actually has a legitimate chance.

I agree with those who say that even though Diaconu would not help bring Dawson to a wider market as much as a Tarver would, it would be a more difficult fight and the real fans would appreciate it more. I am not sure whether Dawson has done it for the money or because Tarver ducked him, or, as would like to hope, because Dawson stays the course true, fighting the best out there. Or maybe, it's just that now, Diaconu is an exciting prospect and Dawson wants to cherry-pick him from the highest branch and Tarver isn't really such a big name. It's probably a combination of all these things. What is certain is that boxing hasn't become squeeky clean, batting with a straight bat, even if Dawson has come out of this so far smelling of roses, which we should be in any case glad about.

It's simple, really. Dawson wanted Tarver for the money (nothing noble in that :D). Tarver looked at the tapes and sharted himself on his milkdud-coloured couch at home, and said no thanks. Dawson then had to face his mandatory Diaconu, the WBC #1 at the moment...a win for boxing fans, a loss for Dawson's wallet, a big win for team Diaconu.

I thought Dawson would have had to give such a big percentage to Tarver and such a small one to Diaconu, particularly to make the fight in Montreal that in the end, he will make more money from the Diaconu fight...i.e 4/6 of Big$ is less than 8/2 of Small$...in this case...looks like I was wrong because Big$ is really big!
