Oscar: Two fights in 2008!
Friday, August 3 2007

Oscar De La Hoya has outlined his future plans in a telephone interview with Sacramento Bee boxing scribe Jim Jenkins. "I would like to fight twice next year, in May and September, opponents to be decided," stated the Golden Boy from Los Angeles. De La Hoya also confirmed his plans to return to welterweight. "I think welterweight would better suit my style," he said. "You have opponents who are bangers, fighters who stay in front of you. I want to leave this sport with fights that people will remember for a long time.":bbb

Wants to fight the winner of the Mayweather-Hatton fight also...:good

A Mayweather-De La Hoya 2.......I knew it was coming:happy

Oscar is too old to beat Mayweather, he should fight Cotto. That would be a 50/50 fight I think.

By the sounds of that, he wants to get his legacy sorted before retiring.

Another Mosley fight and possibly Cotto or Hatton?

he should fight Trinidad at a catchweight and Cotto. if Cotto loses though then itll probably be Mayweather again.

Hatton will be forgotten after he gets beat by Floyd and Paul Williams name isnt big enough even though i think that would be a great fight.

Trinidad II then the best from 147 at the end of 2008 (whoever it will be: PBF, Cotton, Mosley, Hatton?).

Oscar's not fighting Mosley or Mayweather again. Cotto and Hatton - depending on how bad they both lose - I see Oscar and Cotto fighting in May - even after he loses to Mosley.

Trinidad can't make 147 - so you can forget about that one.

That would be a good fight but Like Mayweather, DLH is too skilled for Cotto...even past his prime.

OMFG, The winner of Mayweather-Hatton better not fight De La Hoya the winner of that better fight the winner of Mosley-Cotto. I will be so pissed if De La Hoya-Mayweather II is made. Mayweather beat Oscar convincingly enough the first time we don't need another one. Alot of money will be made but no where near the first fight. I hope Oscar doesn't keep us from seeing Mayweather-Mosley again..:-(

Wow....what fight were you watching to say Mayweather beat DLH convingly? I mean...Floyd won but it was a VERY close fight. In the end it came down to tatics and Floyd had his game plan and stuck to it. With that said...he still had a hell of a night and only edged DLH overall.

oscar is way too big to be fighting at welter. if you look at his frame when he fought trinidad, compared to when he fought floyd, it looks like he'd have to drain himself to practically nothing to look like that again.

You're right...especially if he's going down to 147. Not sure how easy that will be given DLH hasn't been down that low for some years.

Would love to see DLH vs Cotto, I'm pretty sure DLH can knock him out.

can Delahoya even make 147?

Any judge who was not in awe at Oscars star power or the 90% of the crowd who was screaming at the top of their lungs every time Oscar hit Floyd in the elbow 7 times while holding would see Floyd won that fight least 116-112.

Truer words were never spoken...

LOLOL!

DLH is to skilled for Cotto, he might be a bit to big but Cotto has all the tools my friends, I love how everyone claims Cotto is one dimensional or lacks the skills of guys like DLH in my book Cotto has a much more complete offensive package than both Mosely and DLH what he lacks is the chin of Mosely and DLH and the defense of DLH. Skill wise its about even money.

can Delahoya even make 147?

Maybe with the same NYSAC commissioner of 2000 or Jose Luis Castillo's old doctor.

Oscar ain't fighting @ 147 again, despite what he or Larry Merchant may say.

It's either @ 154 or a catchweight.

yeah people underrate cottos jab and actual boxing skills. he has tools and uses them....its just that some punches work awesome for him and land easily...so he uses them. Cottos skilled.

 :patsch Even tho I think Cotto is a devastating body puncher, he is NO WHERE near guys like Mosley and DLH in term of offense gears, these 2 can throw it all, left hooks downstairs and upstairs, dlh as one of the best jab out there while mosley has great combinations, Cotto is in his prime, physicaly realy strong a great heart, a good punch to the body, relentless pressure, overral a realy good fighter but isnt what u may think he is.

its not like we dont think cotto is skilled, its that comparing their techniq its clear that dlh atleast is more sound offensivly then cotto(on the variety of punches) Cotto as a good jab btw but far from what dlh has.( or had if he plan on doing what he did against PBF:patsch )

He should fight Trinidad at a catchweight and fight Cintron or Cotto (both of those would be tremendous fights)

My guess: Cinco de Mayo in Mexico City against someone who he thinks he could beat easily (maybe Antonio Margarito? Luis Collazo is another possibility), the second against whoever he hasn't fought before who would make the biggest event (Hatton or Cotto probably), then one more fight against someone beatable in 2009 so he goes out with a win.

Don't think Cotto's chin will hold up. He would be KO'd in 6 or less.

Dont think Oscar's body would hold up. He would go down again like he did against Hops in 6 or less.

I sure hope they'd fight to see Cotto KO'd in less than six.

DLH should retire right now, is not fighting for legacy he is doing this for money, Mayweather kick his ass and he feels that still being a Superstar! im not interesting in whatching an old man lossing, and get greats pay days for doing this.....in his last 5 fights he his 2-3 and all of this in 4 years!!!

wow, you are straight up retarded man. the man is rich enough as it is, he runs golden boy ya stiff, he is only 34 and has never taken that bad of a beating. he might be 2-3 but look at his opposition. he still has plenty of fight left in him.

Heres what DLH should do,

Get KOed by Cotto in May

Then, lose a lopsided decision to Winky Wright in September

I am in agreement I do not want a rematch w/Mayweather ..It be boring as hell all over again !! Oscar should fight Winky at a catch weigt
His schedule looks to be free..

Wright Dlh Would Be A Great Fight
So Would Cotto. Oscar Would Have A Great Chance With Jermain Taylor (the Ways He's Been Performing Lately)
Williams Would Be A Good Fight
He Would Be Too Big Fo Hatton
TITO WOULD MAKE OSCAR LOOK GOOD WITH ALL HIS INACTIVITY. QUARTEY AGAIN WOULD GOOD IS WELL
147 Would Be A Struggle I Think Now FOR The Golden Boy
