WBC to Honor Jess James Leija at Marquez-Vazquez II

[Only registered and activated users can see links] TX (August 3, 2007) -- The World Boxing Council will honor a true ring warrior, former world boxing champion and famous son of Texas, Jesse “James” Leija, by presenting him the WBC green & gold belt on Saturday, August 4 at The Dodge Arena in Hidalgo Texas, during the super bantamweight title rematch between Rafael Marquez and Israel Vazquez.

Leija (47-7, 19 KOs), from San Antonio, held the WBC super featherweight boxing title and fought great battles against fellow world champions Azumah Nelson, Gabriel Ruelas, Arturo Gatti and Kostya Tszyu among others during a professional career that spanned nearly 20 years, starting in 1988 and ending in 2005.

WBC President, Jose Sulaiman is awarding Jesse James Leija the designation of WBC World boxing Ambassador for peace and equality for his accomplishments as a great fighter and in recognition of his exemplary life outside the ring and for being a true leader in his community.

What's wrong with you, why would you shit on Leija? I've never been a real fan of the guy but let him have his day in the spotlight.Cmon man. You got thicker skin than that. I'm just messing around. I like Leija, always have.

Good to hear that Leija is being honored for all his did during his boxing career. Though I much rather would have liked a better organization to do it other than the WBC.
