I read that Jake was behind on points when he scored the knockout. Is that correct and how far was he behind?

And what did you think of the fight?

Dauthille did indeed have the edge on all cards: 8-6; 7-6-1 & 7-3-4. I've only seen highlights and was impressed by the challenger's punch-rate. Tough luck really but fair play to Jake for pulling it out the bag.

Good Question Chris. By this point Lamotta was past his prime and REALLY struggling to make weight.......he was badly weight drained in this fight. Dauthille outboxed lamotta easily and won most of the rounds......but that 15th round expertise ring savvy lamotta pulled one of the oldest tricks in the book and it worked, and lamotta put on an incredible finishing display.......This fight defined lamottas greatness in many different areas.

The fight that Dauthuille had to win to get that title shot with LaMotta was a fight he won against the guy to your left, my father, Charley Affif. Their fight in April 1950 was similar in tone and outcome. My dad was ahead on all of the cards into the ninth of the scheduled ten, till he too got knocked out. It was the second time he went down in that round, and by the newspaper clippings that I have, he was blindsided. Dauthuille didn't speak a word of English, and either misunderstood or chose to disregard the referee's instructions to go to a neutral corner and bang, my old man took a big right hand and was crashed to the canvass, the back of his head (I've got the action photo) bounced off the ring's floor so hard he was out for a full minute and groggy for a good ten. By the way, the fight you referrence was the second LaMotta/Dauthuille match-up. The first was a few years earlier and Dauthuille took it.

On a different note - how good did they re-make this fight in Raging Bull ?? Just looked exactly like the reall-thing!

Also, when i watched that film, the Robinson-Lamotta 6 fight, it shows SRR pasting LaMotta all over the ring in the 13th, i then watched the actuall 13th round and i thought - 'that film exaggerated that a bit!!'. It was only when i watched rounds 11 and 12 that i realized the film didnt exaggerate anythin', it just compiled the 11th, 12th and llast rounds into 1 for effect.
