Just read the thread on Britains top prospects and If im honest can't really get excited about any of them. If Nathan Cleverly is our top prospect I think we are in for some dark years after having some fantastic years with British fighters.
All I can hope is there is some top amateurs turning pro. Just wondering if any of the Beijing Amateurs have annouced plans to turn pro, especially looking forward to Billy Joe Saunders...

The Euro Amateur Champs take place next month in Liverpool so I'm guessing some of them will compete there, hope to medal and then turn pro.

Saunders is the one I have my eye on too. It looks like Gavin will go with ******, Degale is still trying to secure a guaranteed retirement fund before he has to have a pro fight (can't say I blame him!!). Not much word on the other lads.

Khan beat Saunders in the ams.

Khan has the perfect style for amateur, plus a bit of chin protection....

Saunders was handicapped by the fact that he likes hitting people's ribcages. I'm not sure whether DeGale has the right style (and attitude) to make a successful pro - especially if he gets his big contract.

The light heavy (forgotten his name) might make a decent pro, but David Price wouldn't, he has bad balance I think.

why would you say degale has the wrong attitude for the pro game? the guy fought 7 times in 4 weeks, and even when a cuban bit him didnt alter his game plan and came through agaisnt two fighters (the cuban and sutherland) that had beaten him before and were totally the wrong style for him.

i also think degale has a very good style for the pros. tall and rangey, hes accurate and picks his shots well, can box on the back foot and has a good defence.

yeh price will get to euro title maybe but hes a bit chinny.

billy Joe should do well if the lad stays deciplined .
degale a complete nob don't think he will amount to much light puncher and he slaps alot.

jaffa is abit one dimensional but seems like a nice lad.

In that he won't get out of bed for less than £2m or whatever. He also reminds he a bit of Junior Witter personality-wise. Not exactly an easy guy to warm to.

The promoters seem to have learned that success in vest and headguard does not necessarily translate to success in the pros - for once I agree with Teddy Atlas, it is fencing with gloves on.

The sooner they ditch the farce from the Olympics - or change the game altogether, the better IMO.

they only changed the scoring system because of corrupt judges. guys like roy jones jnr and floyd mayweather would have won gold if the current system was in place, and they are the best two boxers of the past 15 years. (anyone that debates that is a fool)

His peronality has seemed to have captured the public, and hes only trying to get what he can. if your going for a pay rise your not gonna sell yourself short to not look money hungry.

The judging is still corrupt - just in a different way!

WHY they changed the rules/ scoring isn't relevant to this point, the fact is they did and now top amateurs can have styles that are totally unsuited to the pro game. Even years ago adjustments had to be made when changing codes but today, for a lot of these boxers, their style is going to need stripping down and virtually starting again from scratch if they are going to succeed in the pros.

I'm another who doesn't fancy DeGales chances in the pros and by the way he seems to want a big guarantee up front instead of spread out over the term of the contract and/ or based on results, maybe he doesn't either?

they should all take a stab at the pros.

Appaerently none of the Olympic medalists are fighting in the Euros.

And mine TBH, I thought they've give the Euros a go and turn pro. Maybe the guys who did well at the Olympics have been told that its better to turn pro on the back of an Olympic medal than fail to get a medal at the Euros and then turn.

after our last two olympic stars fell at the first hurdle I dont think it is too wise to get over excited with DeGale.

World Bronze medallist and Olympian Joe Murray is the only one from Beijing to box in the Europeans at his new weight Featherweight.
Joe will be the only one from team GB to of boxed at all the 3 Premier tournaments in the past 12 months.

I agree with that. The only time he Degale did not speak out his big batty was when he was with his dad. He thinks he is the saviour of boxing and some sort of superhero. This attitude and constant b/s does not go down well with the public.

Also for weeks now he has been b/s about a £m offers to go pro. The truth is he has had no such offers but like a business in distress is seeking a white night so come in and pay him the £m. Any promoter who pays such big money for Degale is either stupid or well into money laundering.
