i was rewatching the pac-cotto fight again earlier but is it just me or does it seem like Jim Lampley was going for cotto or at least against pacquiao in the fight. If you watch the first half of the fight when it was still a bit competitive he was comin off a bit too excited about cotto punches and a bit nonchalant about pacquiao's. For example when pacquiao knocked down cotto for the 2nd time in round 4, dont you guys think that that call could've been a bit better for that moment? compare it to the first jab cotto landed on pac in the 1st round and you'd think Lampley just had an orgasm by the way he reacted with his call. i dont know, just an observation, what do you guys think?

debunking the myth of louis being completely past it ...

when he fought marciano.
First let me start by saying ali was the greatest heavy of all time, but i feel like marciano has grown very underapreciated/ undrrated over the years. I would place marciano as 4 or 5 on an all time heavys list, probably 4. That list being, 1. ali, 2. louis, 3. Dempsey, 4. Marciano, 5. johnson followed closely by the likes of foreman holyfield tyson lewis. However over the years people have become so quick to discredit marcianos achievements because they feel his best comp was past their prime when they fought. First of all if that was the case their is nothing he could do about it and secondly he did retire undefeated which with an amazing ko percentage which in terms of accomplishment still has not been matched. Lastly i rank louis ahead of marciano on my all time list because i take eveythiong in to account, his longevity his durability and his competition, howvever i feel marciano beats louis at any point in his carreer in terms of head to head competition. Marciano had dynamite in both fists and marathon runner stamina, they said that he would wake up in december and run 15 miles in the snow. I think even in louis's prime marcaino knocks him out cold while behind on the cards in a close fight. Lastly when marciano fought louis, louis was not as past it as most louis fans would like you to believe, louis was 37, look at vitali klit at nearly 39 and what george foreman and bhop are and were able to do in their mid 40's, but more than just the age it was his activity, activity is a fighters best friend, and louis fought 8 times in the 11 months prior to the marciano fight beating the likes of jimmy bivins and cesar brion( 79 -20, and 29-3 respectively) so he wasnt really that past it after all i mean 8 victories in 10 months , 2 over very good comp, the myth of him being completely past it was created to protect his image and rightfully so. Louis was an amzing champion, who is deservingly one of the 3 greatest heavys of all time, but he really wasnt that past it when he got knocked out against marciano, and the result would have occured at any point in his career.

just watching cotto vs mosley again and man you can see the difference in the cotto of last week and the cotto of 2007

He got hit with some of mosley's bombs in rounds 2 and 3 so pretty early and stayed calm recovered and remained focused

He got hit with pac's bombs and he was feeling them pepper his face and his confidence and composeur dropped

What a difference a beating from margo makes

or even too much self-confidence and not knowing your limits and where to focus your fighting

or is pac stronger at WW than Mosley? I don't think so but you never know with the beast!

...the BUILDUP to this fight...man, that is going to be APESHIT.

Think about it...you got your crazy Philipino fans cheering on Pacquiao like a god. You have Mexican boxing fans, who unless Pac's fighting one of their guys, tend to consider Pac one of their own. These two groups could fill an arena themselves...and then you've got the people who just want to see Mayweather KTFO! Not sure who Europeans would generally pick (I imagine about even) or Puerto Ricans (maybe the same) but this is a world-encompassing fight.

And the 24/7 for this...that will be one for the ages. You've got Roach talking his usual shit. You've got THREE Mayweathers talking shit. Those groups together is enough for prime time TV. You've got whatever fat Philipinos who hang out with Manny doing their usual wierd shit. It's going to be EPIC!

I'd say this is the best and most spirited fight I've ever seen either of this fighters wage. Somewhat contrary to their performances in other fights, both of them let it all hang out here. Of course, Cruz was coming off his epic upset win over McGuigan which had earned him his title. Heading into that fight, he had been a complete unknown and came in as a late sub. Against Esparragoza, he was out to prove he was no "fluke" champion and was capable of winning other fights at the top level. Fighting before his hometown fans, he gave his absolute all, but he simply could not match the fiery non-stop punching machine that Esparragoza was on this night.

Esparragoza would go on to defend his title numerous times all over the world, but not against any household names. His most notable challenger was Marcos Villasana, and that ended up being a draw. He was often likened to a "poor man's Arguello" during his heyday, but I felt he was a bit more comparable to Freddie Steele, as he tended to show more of Steele's fire and intensity when he had an opponent hurt rather than Arguello's coolness and patience. Eventually, he lost his title to Yong Kyun Park and never fought again.

I don't believe Cruz was ever really the same after this fight, but he did manage to string together a few good wins a few years later and earned a title shot at Jorge Paez. I remember this as being a heavily hyped grudge match in the heyday of NBC-televised boxing. Cruz surprised Paez early in the fight by dropping him with a sneak right hand, but for the most part Cruz stayed on the defensive and Paez muscled and hustled his way to a clear decision win. Not long after that, Cruz faded into obscurity.

On a side note, I would've loved to have seen a unification match between Esparragoza and Paez. Jeff Fenech was also a titleholder during this period, and a fight between him and either of the other two would've been great as well.

Just wondered who everyone thought might win boxer of the year next week. For me there's three real contenders and I can see the arguments for and against each.

Carl Froch - Three world title wins in the last year (Pascal was after the last awards although in 2008, so I would hope it would count), especially the amazing stoppage over Taylor. However his performance against Dirrell wasn't so good and many believe he lost the fight.

Amir Khan - Another world title winner and a victory over a true legend in Barerra. However Barerra was well past and probably should have been a no-contest and Whilst he fought well against Kotelnik, he was the easiest champ out there for Khan.

David Haye - He became world heavyweight champion which in itself would win you something like this hands down, but only one fight in the year and a rather dull afair does go against him.
