Eh no, whether Barrera is at his best or worst. Pacquiao will always be faster than Barrera and will always have more punching power than Barrera.
The only way Barrera beats Pacquiao is if they surgically switch his body with Marvin Hagler, switch his arms with Sugar Ray Leonard, switch his fist with Hearns, and switch his chin with Roberto Duran. That way his body will take the pounding Pacquiao is gonna inflict on his body, his handspeed will actually match or surpass Pacquiao, He'll have the power to hurt Pacquiao, and his chin will hold up to Pacquiao's power. |

This 'new' Pacquiao, trying ot incorporate a bit of composure into his movement is the one that Barrera would do better againat prime for prime 9of course that would have to be in a pound for pound sense because the weight classes don't directly correspond, but anyway, the way Pacquiao fought in their actual fight is the way he should always fight Barrera in a hypothetical match up, i'd pick him every time that provided.

MAB got stopped on his feet. I personally feel the best Marco Antonio Barrera that I ever saw, which was against Jesus Salud in 2000, would have given any 122lbs fighter in history absolute hell. That means to say I feel he beats everyone of them except for maybe Gomez, who's ability to mix combination's and power better than maybe anyone else ever would be too much. Marco's speed at that point in time was dangerously close to being just as fast as Manny's, but his ability to deliver punches with better technique would have made the difference. And I agree with Teeto, Manny will always do better against Marco with an offensively minded game plan. If he tries to counter Marco, he'll often get punished just as Tapia did in my signature. Allow Marco in his comfort zone and that's when he's at his brilliant best. I'd love to see Manny land a combination like that, he's never shown that kind of ring craft. |

KTFO (Knocked the fuck out) is what happened to Manny Pacquiao against Torrecampo. He took a 10 count, and had no idea where he was. I'm not saying this to mock Manny, lots of great fighters get knocked the fuck out in their careers, but it never happened to Marco. Not even against Jones. He was again stopped on his feet. Quote:
Barrera's prime - 1998-2003 Wenton, Llyod, Najera, Freitas, Salud, Hamed, Sanchez, Erik Morales, Johnny Tapia. Watch those string of fights, one of the most complete fighters of the last 20 years at his absolute peak. Boxing is a funny sport. Roberto Duran looked unbeatable for maybe one night against Ray Leonard, and he'd never look that good again ever. I personally don't think Marco was prepared for Manny that night, I think he thought he'd run over this little Filipino in double quick time. He ended up getting beaten up badly. Is this to say the best Marco beats the best Manny? I don't think so, Manny has come on considerably since then, but I favor Marco at 122lbs. |
