My uncle had a small holding near Thronton and when I was home we would go and watch cards in Burnley and we saw Blue 4 or 5 times, and actually had him down as a decent prospect...funny thing is, when I asked my uncle who was on the card he would refer to Blue as "that puff light welter" . He used to take boatloads of photos and i'm sure that he must have one or two of Mr B...i'll check through them next time I see him and post up here for people to make their own judgement (sorry Blue)

In the latter half of the season the likes of McLaren, Ferrari and (forgot who makes the 'RedBull' team) have all caught up in terms of Machanics/Engineering and Button has been pretty average. If Hamilton had have had the car he now races from the start then I have no reservations about believing Button would have had another season full of broken promises.

There are 3/4 far better 'drivers' out there than Button for me, so he doesn't get the SPOTY on personal achievements.
The Ashes, similiar to Haye was a two horse race to the title. At least with Haye its an individual sport not a team sport.
Khan and Froch are probably better shouts than Haye however they aren't in the 'poster boy division' for public recognition. Froch gets his critics form Calzaghe's fans so isn't big enough with the boxing community and Khan will not get it due to the fact that he doesn't get the recognition for coming back from the brink of disaster and career failure and he sports a pakistani gumsheild.

Jessica Ennis SHOULD win it however who actually cares about Athletics these days when its not the Olympics ? IAAF World Combined Events Challenge Champion. 2009World Championships winner, 6 Personal bests this season in her respective catagories
Depends how you define "best". He's certainly been the most consistent, having only finished outside the points once. F1 is unique in that having a good car is so important. People have, rightly, said Hamilton and Alonso were not competitive because of their car but don't want to give Button the same benefit of the doubt for all the years he had a bad car.

F1 is a team game, hence why you have two parallel championships; drivers and constructors. It's not Brawn's fault the other teams couldn't get their act together and I'm willing to bet that, politics permitting, Button will still be competitive next year.

The Ashes were won over a series of five games, again a degree of consistency is needed to win it. It's not the same as winning a one off boxing match.

Denigrating other sports isn't the way to raise boxing's profile, and that was my main problem with the general sentiment shown on this thread. I'd rather see Haye win it next year, having put Ruiz into retirement and beaten a Klitschko.

Boxing should be back on a pedestal with other popular sports, not attempting to create its own from which to scoff haughtily at others.

Dan-b, lighten up man. From a personal point of view,it's been a mediocre year of sporting achievments(although what FRoch did to Taylor was'nt bad). And for me capturing a HW belt, abroad, against a physical giant of a man, in only his 2nd HW fight, thats a great sporting achievment and deserves credit,IF he pulls it off.
I was'nt trying to scoff at other sports, its just a personal thing

It's good to have a serious discussion every now and again, don't you think? The Brit forum has always been good in that respect, you can get a decent debate going without people calling each other "fags" or some shit.

The Beeb have given Haye a fair amount of coverage the last few days, let's hope he can do this. Man, I'll have butterflies come Saturday night.
