Default Steroids Plague in MMA

It looks like some people didn’t receive the memo:

“No steroids or drugs are allowed in California,” said Armando Garcia, the executive director for the California State Athletic Commission. “We want to let everyone know we’re doing testing.”

A number of mixed martial arts fighters, including former Detroit Lions receiver [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and BJJ & UFC legend [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], have been caught with steroids or drugs found in their systems by the CSAC since illegal drug testing began in March. Before 2007, steroid testing had not been part of California’s medical exams.

Morton and Gracie wasn’t the only MMA fighters who tested positive for an illegal substance. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] was also found with traces of methamphetamine in his urine sample. Both fighters were part of an MMA event June 2 at the Los Angeles Coliseum: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ].

Garcia said the danger of drug uses can ruin not only MMA but others sports such as boxing, baseball, football and basketball.

“It’s cheating,” Garcia said. “Imagine if you’re in Las Vegas and you want to place a bet on a game. It can have a huge effect in so many directions.”

On Wednesday, the Commission released information that Morton’s urine sample before his fight indicated testosterone levels far exceeding the norm. He is suspended indefinitely, and other penalties will be given after a seven-day period in which Morton is allowed to explain in writing why he refused a post-fight drug test.

One day earlier, professional boxers James Toney and Dan Batchelder were found violating drug rules by the CSAC and suspended and fined $2,500.

Last February, the CSAC released the names of 52 professional fighters, including MMA stars [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] and [Only registered and activated users can see links. ], who tested positive for drugs.

“These guys are juiced,” said Garcia. “It’s worrying the heck out of me.”

Is this news? Steroids are becoming a big problem in most sports espcially combat sports. As for Morton i really dont know why he bothered in the first place. It was confirmed that he had a banned substance in his urine sample and has been handed an indefinite ban.Seems a bit hypocritical seeing as Toney was handed a fine of $2500 and a years ban.

Petty much like in every sports...It can't ruin mma though.
Let's just say that it tarnishes the image of the sport especially when a champion is involved.

that's the worst...as long as champs are not involved...it's not as scandalous.

Tim Sylvia tested positive so did Barnett (when he had the belt)...
that's the type of shit you gotta avoid...
nowadays though...there's no such cases...

Royce , Nastula , Randleman , Diaz all tested positive for some illegal substances but they're not title holders... Dunno , maybe it's just may way of seeing this situation in a positive light.

I don't need to read it. Steroids plague every sport. I suppose when you are the athlete you want to do what you have to win and that includes cheating. You got to blame the orgs, commissions etc They have to make athletes scared to use roids. That means loads of testing, heavy fines etc

Nah, they arent testing purely for performance enhancers, they are testing for weed and pain killers as well.. If Bas Rutten is taking demoral or opiates since he's broken his shins and knees 10000 times, so fucking what? If Nick Diaz smoked a couple bowls, big fucking deal, the guy needs to calm down anyhow, weed is probably good for him..

On the other hand, If Mark Coleman and Randleman hook up steroid iv drips every night, thats a problem.
