Ramos is still in shape but has an equilibrium problem so rather than spar, he will represent the Retired Boxers Foundation as a referee and “work the corner.” Laughingly Ramos said that he was “starting training next week” to build stamina. Alex Ramos will be in town for his induction into the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame on Thursday evening, November 8th.

“I respect Steve Farhood and I consider all of the New York boxers my friends. I like what they are doing for the Twin Towers Fund and I want to help,” said Ramos. Ramos is the Founder and President of the Retired Boxers Foundation.

One of the Foundation’s programs is called “Fighters Helping Fighters” and the exhibition at Gleason’s “shows the heart of the brotherhood of boxers doing something for the brotherhood of fighters from New York’s Fire Department, Law Enforcement and other emergency service personnel.” said Ramos.

The Retired Boxers Foundation will also bring new recording artist, “Jun” who will perform the National Anthem. Jun also recorded two songs for the Retired Boxers, “We Fought for the World” and “Stick & Move.” Jun performed the songs at Yonkers Raceway on October 3rd and received a standing ovation.

York State Office of Court Administration, and other government offices who lost their lives or were injured because of the tragedies of September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center.

Every dollar given to the Twin Towers Fund is going directly to help the victims' families, especially those among the
rescue workers.

"The New York boxing community has been incredibly supportive," said event coordinator Steve Farhood. "This was a tragedy that touched everyone, and this event is the boxing community's way, at a grass-roots level, of helping out. The Retired Boxers Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation started by 1984 USBA Middleweight Champion, Alex “The Bronx Bomber” Ramos in 1995 to help fighters in need, is leading a campaign called “Fighters Helping Fighters” to inspire other fighters to help. Ramos started the Retired Boxers Foundation because of what happens to professional boxers once their careers are over. Because boxing is the only sport that does not provide adequate pensions to fighters once they retire, too many of them suffer in the transition from their glorious days in the ring to a
dignified retirement.

For more information on the Retired Boxers Foundation, “Fighters Helping Fighters” program, call Alex Ramos at (805) 583-5890 or visit their website at www.retiredboxers.org. The Fighters Helping Fighters campaign has assisted over 100 retired professional boxers and their families, including arranging surgery, tax consultation to clear up problems with the IRS, legal services, rehabilitation services, Dignity Bags for homeless fighters and fighters in convalescent homes as well as financial assistance for the families.
