Arum rumors: Donaire vs. Arce
By Vitali Shaposhnikov: Nonito Donaire’s (27-1-0) stock has been on a very sharp and aggressive rise ever since his demolition of Vic Darchinyan (37-4-1) in 2007. Then, after many great performances, Donaire was able to claim yet another tremendous and unquestionably memorable knockout victory by sending Fernando Montiel (46-4-2) to the canvas in February of 2011. continue

Cotto vs. Mayweather: I can't wait to see Miguel knock the smug smile off Floyd's face
By Peter de Lange: My first reaction was "they got it wrong again" when I heard that Miguel Cotto would be Floyd Mayweather's next opponent. Everybody knows that the biggest fight out there is Mayweather against manny Pacquiao and the powers that be in the world of boxing failed to put it together again. I figured that this is why boxing is no longer a mainstream sport and is losing ground to the growing industry of MMA/UFC, if you can't make the show that everybody wants to see then why should anybody care? continue

Mayweather vs Cotto Is But A Space-Filler
By Vitali Shaposhnikov: As soon as the Mayweather Jr. vs. Cotto fight was officially announced, it was unbelievably tempting for me to jump on my computer and pound the keys on my keyboard until my frustrations, surprise, and peace was typed out in a form of a news article. Nevertheless, I decided to wait, as by the time I got the news, there were already dozens of pieces written on this very topic. continue

Is Rubio finally a good test for Chavez Jr.?
By Vitali Shaposhnikov: Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (44-0-1) is a fighter with a famous name and the benefit of the doubt accompanying him since the beginning of his career. Is a Bradley fight NOW a lose/lose for Pacquiao??
By Robert Jackson: Turning down a $40M guarantee offered by Floyd Mayweather Jr. to fight, may have its virtues, but could also come back to haunt Manny Pacquiao. Recently released unofficial documents show that Pacquiao purses have not in most cases reflected the stated guarantees for those fights. With Cotto now facing Mayweather and Marquez looking to be facing Lamont Peterson, the next available opponent for Manny Pacquiao’s next fight may be the newly signed to Top Rank fighter Timothy Bradley. continue

Angelo Dundee passes away at 90
By Paul Strauss: Several of the articles written about Angelo's passing are titled "Muhammad Ali's Trainer Dies". There seems to be something not quite right about describing Angelo that way. Why Pacquiao is better off now that Cotto is going to fight Mayweather instead
by Geoffrey Ciani - With the official announcement that Floyd Mayweather Junior (42-0, 26 KOs) will be facing Miguel Cotto (37-2, 30 KO) on May 5, curious fans will now turn their attention to Manny Pacquiao (54-3-2, 38 KOs). Who will Pacquiao’s next opponent be? With Mayweather and Cotto now officially eliminated from consideration there are basically three names left: Timothy Bradley (28-0, 12 KOs), Lamont Peterson (30-1-1, 15 KOs), and Juan Manuel Marquez (53-6-1, 39 KOs). Although many from Pacquiao’s camp felt as if Cotto would have been an ideal opponent for Pac-Man at this time, that was strictly looking at things from a financial perspective. Fans don’t care about boxing finances, though. They care about seeing good fights where the outcome is difficult to determine beforehand. As such, Pacquiao’s remaining three options all represent more interesting challenges for Pacquiao than Cotto.
There was simply no reason for a Pacquiao-Cotto rematch! When they did fight Pacquiao defeated him decisively. He proved he was beyond a doubt the better man that night. Rematches are typically reserved for extremely close fights, contests that end with a controversial decision, or both. None of that was applicable here, and even though Cotto was competitive through the first four rounds he was also dropped twice during that duration. From that point forward, Cotto more or less went into full retreat mode. He was reluctant to fight. Now some fans might claim losing two extra pounds to make the 145 catch contractual catch weight drained Cotto and weakened him. While there might be some truth in this, the average fan that purchased the fight will likely not care. They will simply remember Pacquiao’s dominance and nothing more. Cotto’s unwillingness to fight during the final eight rounds made this an unappealing contest for those who remember the first fight. continue

Mayweather/Cotto & "Canelo"/Mosley: Cinco De Maybe.....Cinco De Maybe Not
By Vivek Wallace: With Manny Pacquiao officially out of the Floyd Mayweather jr. hunt for what is traditionally known as the most festive weekend in the sport, seems the stage could be set for what many could dub the next best thing. Although no official word has come, and no official agreement has been reached on either front, rumblings in the underground have it that fight fans could be presented what would be an incredible card, as four of the sports more perennial names would square off.
All the heavy brass in Goldenboy Promotions would deny this on record, but Mayweather/Cotto and Alvarez/Mosley seem to be a very hot topic in certain circles, and what started as a luke warm whisper has suddenly become a deafening roar....even if it is only by sheer fan desire.
Pacquiao has made it clear that he will only face Cotto if Cotto agrees to sacrifice his weight again, coming down to 147lbs. Cotto's response has been very candid, making it very clear that he will not make such a mistake again, regardless of how much money is attached to the request. Some would raise an eyebrow at Cotto for declining an offer to make more than he probably ever has against Pacquiao in a rematch, but in opting for Mayweather, Cotto quickly learns a bird in the hand beats two in a bush. In simple terms, Cotto has lost to two men in his career. He has avenged one of those losses, (Margarito), but rather than risking the odds of defeat to the man who gave him the other loss, (Pacquiao), he could set out to face the man, (Mayweather), who most feel could defeat that man. continue

By Michael Collins: A fight is considered a terrible mismatch when one fighter doesn’t even have to use their right hand to win it. The March 3rd fight between IBF/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (56-3, 49 KO’s) and 39-year-old Jean Marc Mormeck (36-4, 22 KO’s) is a pretty good case for that.
