He has finally retired from his former profession as a union roofer and has expanded his boxing training duties. He has worked as a card carrying roofing laborer since 1985, three years after he lost his belt to Dwight Qawi..
Now pushing 52 he has decided enough is enough and is enjoying his new full time job working at Gladiator Boxing in Forked River, NJ. Matthew previously had success as a professional trainer when he led Philadelphia's Will "Stretch"Taylor to the USBA championship and a shot at the IBF title.
Matthew has also had great success working at Gleason's Fantasy Boxing Camp that is held annually in Monticello New York. Now Matthew spends his time training up and coming amateurs and professional hopefuls. Matthew is available for one on one appointments, guest appearances, and autograph singings.
