02.11.06 - By Scott Frake: David Tua's (45-3-1, 39 KO's) bad luck continued recently, when it was revealed that his latest opponent, Abraham Okine, failed his medical eye exam, making it necessary for Tua to find yet another fighter for tonight's bout at the Roseland Ballroom, in New York. At this point, it appears that 36-year-old Maurice Wheeler (10-8-1) will get the shot at Tua. However, for Tua, this has got to be disappointing, in that he was previously scheduled to fight Kelvin Davis, Ross Puritty and Abraham Okine, most who would have likely given Tua a better shot at getting the rust off of his long dormant boxing skills than tonight's opponent.
Tua, though still a potent force in the heavyweight division due to his devastating power, has been very selective in choosing opponents since fighting to a draw with Hasim Rahman in 2003. Since then, Tua has fought strictly journeymen fighters, and tonight will be no different. Hopefully, after tonight, Tua will decide to upgrade his opposition, since he's running out of time to rebuild his once promising career.
