-Wladimir Klitschko has just informed us that his
bout against David Izon, scheduled for December 1
in New York City, will not take place.
Wladimir, this information has
shocked us! What happened?
Several days ago during sparring I
received trauma of infrospinales muscle that is located
in the shoulder area in the back. I’ve been hit
to the back of the shoulder and the muscle has torn.
After detailed medical inspection doctors cleared
out that further trainings and the bout itself could
become the factors that bring about the final rupture
of the muscle.
Did Vitali have a similar situation
before the fight against Chris Byrd?
Yes. Vitali made a decision then to
step over the pain, and we already know what it resulted
in. One has to learn by mistakes not to repeat them.
I can not work with my left hand for all 100% that
means it’s simply stupid to get into the ring
having trauma.
How serious is the received trauma?
Will you need surgical operation
There is nothing serious, I won’t
need any surgery. I already started the therapy course.
There are only injections so far.
How long will it take to rehabilitate
your condition?
I will need about three-four weeks
to completely rehabilitate myself after trauma. It
will be roughly a month needed to get back to a good
form.
Can you name now the date your
bout with Izon will be postponed to?
Today America celebrates Thanksgiving.
So it was not possible to solve any issues. Tomorrow
Klaus-Peter Kohl will be calling HBO headquarters
and organizers of this boxing match. After additional
negotiations the new date for this fight will be set.
I believe we can talk about late January- early February.
Will the fight take place in the
USA?
It is difficult to provide you with
any details. It can be both the USA and Germany.
Wladimir, we all wish you the quick
recovery. I think all boxing fans will join us in
this desire.
Thank you. I would like to ask all
our fans’ pardon, but in this situation it the
most clever to take a pause. This is just a temporary
stop.

Klitschko has to cancel title defense
22.11 - New York - An injury is forcing
WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko to cancel
his title defense against David Izon scheduled for
December 1 in New York.
During a sparring session at the Universum
Gym in Hamburg a punch hit Klitschko on the back of
his left shoulder. The 25-year-old immediately felt
strong pain in his shoulder so that the sparring was
stopped.
During a check up with ultra sound
scan and magnetic resonance the doctors E. Peter Benckendorff
and Dr. Finkenstaedt diagnosed a torn muscle fiber
inside Musculus infraspinatus of his left shoulder.
According to Dr. Benckendorff is Klitschko
unable to fight for the next three to four weeks.
