"Mayweather/De La Hoya 24/7" premieres Sunday night on HBO

09.04.07 - Leading up to the junior middleweight championship match between future hall of famers Oscar De La Hoya and Floyd Mayweather — set for May 5 and carried live on HBO Pay-Per-View — HBO Sports presents the exclusive four-episode series DE LA HOYA/MAYWEATHER 24/7 in the weeks before the showdown. The first half-hour episode of DE LA HOYA/MAYWEATHER 24/7 debuts SUNDAY, APRIL 15 (10:30 p.m. ET/PT & 9:30 p.m. CT), with two more episodes debuting subsequent Sundays – APRIL 22 and 29 – at the same time, while the fourth episode debuts THURSDAY, MAY 3 (9:30 p.m. ET/PT), just two days before the fight. The first three episodes debut immediately following new episodes of “The Sopranos” (9:00 p.m. ET/PT) and “Entourage” (10:00 p.m. ET/PT)..

HBO Sports will provide exclusive behind-the-scenes access, along with in-depth interviews, as Oscar De La Hoya (38-4, 30 KOs), 34, a native of East Los Angeles, and Floyd Mayweather (37-0, 24 KOs), 30, from Grand Rapids, Mich., prepare for their historic showdown, the most eagerly awaited match-up in recent memory.

De La Hoya is defending his 154-pound junior middleweight crown against the sport’s reigning pound-for-pound king. Mayweather, fighting at 154 pounds for the first time, brings a perfect record into what could be a career-defining battle for him.

Debut date: SUNDAY, APRIL 15 (10:30-11:00 p.m. ET/PT)

Other HBO playdates: April 16 (3:30 p.m., 11:00 p.m), 17 (8:00 a.m., 11:30 p.m.), 18 (5:45 p.m., midnight), 19 (1:00 a.m.), 21 (10:30 a.m.), 27 (9:00 p.m.) and 28 (11:30 a.m.).

HBO cameras follow the two fighters on a cross-country 11-city promotional tour to publicize their showdown. De La Hoya opens training camp in Puerto Rico and Mayweather opens camp in Las Vegas as they begin two months of intense preparation.

Known as “The Golden Boy,” De La Hoya has appeared 29 times on HBO since turning pro; he also earned a gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games. “Pretty Boy Floyd” has fought 20 times on HBO since turning pro; he was a bronze medalist at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games.

On Saturday, May 5, at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT, HBO Pay-Per-View presents the junior middleweight championship match “De La Hoya vs. Mayweather,” live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The executive producers of DE LA HOYA/MAYWEATHER 24/7 are Ross Greenburg and Rick Bernstein; the coordinating producer is Dave Harmon: producers, Jason Hehir and Scott Boggins; narrator, Liev Schreiber.
