Hitz Boxing Presents THE ROCKFORD RUMBLE on May 7th

02.05.04 - Chicago’s premier boxing promoter Bobby Hitz of Hitz Boxing brings a top notch evening of professional boxing to the Rockford Motor Speedway on Friday, May 7th. Headlining the five-bout “Rockford Rumble” event is local favorite Mike “Tension” Nevitt (6-0, 3 KOs) of Sycamore. In a highly anticipated rematch, Gary Gomez faces John Roman Williams for the Illinois State Cruiserweight Championship. The action begins at 8pm this coming Friday.

Born and raised in Sycamore, Nevitt trains at Chicago’s Windy City Gym under the tutelage of famed trainer Sam Colonna. Colonna, who has trained numerous World Champions including Angel Manfredy, Angel Hernandez and current Heavyweight contender Andrew Golota said, “Nevitt is a hard-working fighter. I wish I had more like him. He has a great future in boxing.” Nevitt is very excited to fight in front of a hometown audience.

In the evening’s Championship bout, Gary Gomez (7-3, 4 KOs) of Butte, MT fights a rematch with John Roman Williams (13-3, 6 KOs) of Chicago for the Illinois State Cruiserweight Title. Last November, Gomez and Williams fought a war that ended with a split decision going to Gomez. Both boxers have been anxious to fight a rematch and now have the opportunity to do so for a Title. Since his bout with Williams, Gomez has has beaten veteran Vinson Durham and prospect Michael Sams.

Other featured fighters include Heavyweight RC Pettigrew (0-1) of Rockford and Heavyweight Carl “Iron Fist” Davis (3-1, 2 KOs) of Chicago. Another bout is to be announced.

On May 21, Hitz Boxing presents their fourth event in a month when they host ESPN2’s Friday Night Fights from Elk Grove Village in suburban Chicago.
