The 19-year old Lunas, a native of Tabaco, Albay, made his first successful title defense by decisioning two-time PABA lightflyweight champion Deeden Kengkarun last August 9 at the jampacked Mandaluyong City Gym.
Lunas, who has a professional record of 15-2 with 8 KO’s, is currently rated #15 in the latest World Boxing Association (WBA). An impressive win over Surapol will propel Lunas to barge into the top ten of the same WBA ratings.
The veteran Surapol is a well-traveled campaigner who has fought in many parts of the globe which includes Japan, China, Indonesia and Australia.
Surapol won the Thailand flyweight tiara by decisioning compatriot and one-time Manny Pacquiao victim Panomdej Or Yuthanakorn on September 16, 2001 in Bangkok, Thailand.
He once vied for the Oriental superflyweight title but lost a close 12-round decision to world-rated Japanese bet Hideyashu Ishihara on June 22, 2003 in Nagoya, Japan.
Surapol also had a gallant albeit losing effort for the PABA belt, dropping another close 12-round verdict to Mongolian prospect Yura Dima back in 1998 in China.
In the undercard, Philippine lightweight champion Fernando Montilla will stake his crown against top contender Larry Pelonia in another slambang 12-round championship match.
