27.04.07 - By Wray Edwards - Photos © Wray Edwards/ESB. Brazilian Acelino Freitas returns to the scene of his WBO Lightweight Championship victory over Zahir Raheem one year ago, to see if he can wrest Juan Diaz’ WBA strap away from the Houston law student. As Acelino and Juan posed at the scales, Joel Casamayor stood nearby to check out what might be his next opponent. El Cepillo looked great and I remembered what he told me in Vero Beach one day…he said “I want to clear out the division”. Maybe he’ll get his chance..
Ticket sales are brisk here at the Ledyard Center Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut. The event will be held in the Fox Arena (bingo hall) and should be a real action-packed contest. There was no trash talk and both fighters showed respect…as they should. It is refreshing to see a professional approach to the sport as others feign animosity to gin up interest in their pending matches. These fake confrontations at news conferences are boring and unnecessary. A real Boxing fan dismisses these displays. Here are the weigh-in results.
