Woolnough - Spearman Top "Battle at the Boat" May 15

04.05.04 - Canadian Super Middleweight champion Mark Woolnough (13-3-1, 4 ko’s) will face Jose Spearman (20-7-2, 8 ko’s) in the main event at the Emerald Queen Casino’s Battle at the Boat Boxing Series. Woolnough, the current Canadian Super Middleweight champion, has strung together six straight wins including his last three at the Battle at the Boat Series. It will be his first main event at the Emerald Queen. “Mark is a crowd pleaser and he deserves to main event here,” said promoter Brian Halquist. “He has fought for us seven times on the undercard and now he gets a chance to shine.” Woolnough will face Jose Spearman from Lexington, Kentucky in the ten rounder. “Jose is a very tough fighter,” said Halquist. “Jose’s losses have been to very tough fighters. The Northwest boxing fans are in for a treat with this fight,” Halquist said.

The semi-main event will feature undefeated cruiserweight Chad Van Sickle (16-0-2) who will try to continue his unblemished record against Eric Star (11-12-2) from Hillsborough, North Carolina. “Star went eight rounds with top ten ranked Ravea Springs earlier this month,” Halquist commented. “If Chad wins this fight, he has been approved to fight the vacant WBA America’s title in July. Chad will take a big step up in competition for that fight but he must get past Star first,” Halquist said.

There will be seven fights with forty scheduled rounds for the 29th installment of the “Battle” series. Fights start at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $75-$40-$20 and are available at Ticketmaster, the Emerald Queen Casino gift shop or by calling Brian Halquist Productions at 253-564-2090.
