Goossen to train Vazquez for rematch!

24.05.07 - Israel “Magnifico” Vazquez and his manager Frank Espinoza have chosen Joe Goossen as their trainer for Vazquez’s huge rematch on August 4th against WBC Superbantam weight champion Rafael Marquez. Vazquez was formerly trained by Freddie Roach. “Joe Goossen is a well respected trainer and a very knowledgeable person,” said Espinoza. “He’s also a great strategist. We’re very happy with our choice.” Marquez beat Vazquez by seventh round TKO in a thriller on March third..

Vazquez’s nose was damaged enough to impair his breathing and he chose not to continue into the eighth round. Former conditioning coach, Justin Fortune, will no longer be part of Vazquez’s camp. “Justin understood that I had to go with the more experienced trainer,” said Espinoza. The rematch between Vazquez and Marquez will be televised by Showtime Championship boxing from the city of Hidalgo, Texas.
