Povetkin does away with L'Heureux in 2nd round KO!
26.05.07 - By Izyaslav “Slava” Koza: There was no surprises in Germany for Alexander Povetkin as he easily put away Canadian Patrice L'Heureux in the second round. It was difficult to give Povetkin too much credit, however, as the Canadian looked like some sort of amalgamation between Eric Esch and a poor man’s Samuel Peter. The Canadian stood in place almost immobile trying to jab rather then counter from such a position.
Povetkin had a ball moving in and out as he wanted and striking with whatever punches he wanted. Though Patrice held his hands high, Alexander easily punched through the guard and forced his opponent to the ropes at will. The ref made a mercy stoppage in the second after L’Heureux was pinned to the ropes. In America they might have let it go till somebody hit the canvas but after the token protest you could see the Canadian’s legs were doing the drunken dance.
As mentioned there is nothing much that can be taken from this victory except that it’s an opponent with a pretty record. It will be interesting to see how Povetkin’s next proposed bout with Monte Barrett should go.
