The bout will be televised by ESPN2 and will open their annual ‘Tuesday Night Fights’ series. Mercer (6’1”, 240lbs) is a former world champion (W.B.O.) and is also looking to re-establish himself in the division after a loss to Wladimar Klitsckho in 2002. The 43-year old Mercer has been in the ring with some of the best in the division, as his only losses have come against the likes of Wladimar Klitschko, Lennox Lewis, Evander Holyfield and Larry Holmes.
Williamson (6’4”, 225lbs) has hit the comeback trail in full force, notching wins over Kendrick Releford and Elicier Castillo already in 2004. The June 8th date will also mark Williamson’s return to ESPN2 for a fifth time. A win over Mercer will add another name to his ever growing resume and should
propel Williamson into the Top 10 of the various sanctioning bodies, positioning him for a world title shot.
