Sauerland: "Sturm offer still the same" - Abraham: "IŽll fight him at any time"
It was with astonishment that Team Sauerland reacted to Felix SturmŽs most recent comments about a potential showdown with IBF middleweight champion Arthur Abraham. Sturm had voiced his disappointment that none of the "1000 offers" from his end had been successful. "I donŽt know to whom he directed those offers but we did not receive anything at all," Wilfried Sauerland stated. "There has just been one offer - last year and from us. We put it in written form to his promoters."
Last Saturday King Arthur defended his IBF crown with a spectacular third-round stoppage of Sebastien Demers. "Arthur is in the best shape of his life. He has never boxed that well," trainer Ulli Wegner lauded. Sauerland holds a similar view - and would love to stage a unification fight. "Sturm would be our favourite opponent for a unification," he stated. "I am 1000 percent sure that Arthur would beat him. Our offer is still the same. One could always negotiate financial questions. Furthermore, Sturm keeps saying he wants to fight the best - and Arthur is certainly among them.."
Abraham, unbeaten in 23 fights, is currently visiting his family back home in Armenia. Asked whether he would fight Sturm, he said: "At any time - and with pleasure."
