Larry Merchant to work the Cotto-Judah fight for HBO
05.06.07 - HBO boxing commentator Larry Merchant will work this Saturday night’s Cotto-Judah fight, even though his HBO contract has expired following the May 19th Spinks vs. Taylor bout. As of now, his new contract is reportedly being ironed out with HBO executives and they are working on the terms. As of late, Merchant has been a subject of controversy because of rumors of his contract not being renewed and his position being replaced by newly hired analyst Max Kellerman.
However, since the rumors began, there has been an enormous amount of public support for Merchant in the various boxing websites on the net, including this one Merchant, with most people dead set against him being replaced. Merchant, 76, has been with HBO since 1978, after having previously worked as a sports columnist with the Philadelphia Daily News and the New York Post, and a general columnist with the Los Angeles Herald Examiner
