Guzman Accepts Pacquaio Fight, Terms, Waits For Contract From Top Rank

Two time WBO champion Joan Guzman has released an official statement as rting that he has accepted to fight Manny Pacquiao at any location, on any date. Guzman’s manager, Jose Nunez stated: “We haven’t outpriced ourselves, we have agreed to the terms that Top Rank has presented us with last Wednesday and we are ready and willing to take on Pacquiao whenever he pleases..

I would also like to clarify the fact that I have been misquoted as saying that Pacquiao is scared of Guzman. I never said that, I know that Pacquiao is a great fighter with a big heart and he doesn’t ever seem to back down from a challenge, the one who is scared is Freddie Roach. Roach doesn’t want this fight. What kind of trainer doesn’t have confidence in his guy?

Roach needs to stay in his role as the trainer and allow managers, advisors, promoters and the actual fighters to do the talking.” Golden Boy Promotions and Sycuan Ringside Promotions also approve of the bout and support any decision Team Guzman may make regardless of any current legal issues occurring between GBP and Top Rank.

With the approval from Golden Boy this opens the window of opportunity for a major network to televise the bout without the uprising of any additional legal matters which would occur if Pacquiao were to fight anyone else without GBP’s authorization. Guzman has said that even though Pacquiao will be a challenging opponent he is confident that he will beat him.

Let’s give boxing fans what they want and that is great matches between tough fighters. It doesn’t get any better than having the best fight the best, with the true king of the super featherweight division coming out on top.”
