Sam vs McCall Sold Out

14.06.07 - With an audience of 6,500 spectators the Atatürk SporSalonu will be sold out when “The Bull from Bosporus” Sinan Samil Sam and “The Atomic Bull” Oliver McCall clash in Ankara on Saturday. Therefore arena-CEO Ahmet Öner advised to set up a large screen (24 m²) in front of the hall for “public viewing.."

Sam is worshiped as a hero in his hometown. “The Bull from Bosporus” is surrounded by fanatic admirers and supporters wherever he goes. Everybody wants a photo with the champ or at least an autograph. Sinan: “It’s good to know that the whole nation is behind me. I will not disappoint my fellow countrymen.”

Owen Reece (new coach of Juan Carlos Gomez) will not be in the corner of his protégée who is fighting Dennis Bakhtov (Russia). The Jamaican had problems getting his visa. Instead of Reece Bülent Baser, a former assistant of Fritz Sdunek, will coach Gomez. He will also be in the corner of local heroes Mustafa Karagol and “Mini-Tyson” Selcuk Aydin who fight on the same card.

At their final training supervised by trainers Manny Masson and Hans-Jürgen Witte arena’s heavy rising stars Odlanier Solis, Steffen Kretschmann and Konstantin Airich appeared well prepared for their fights. Especially Olympic Gold Medallist Solis wants to impress the Turkish audience to make up for a loss he suffered in Turkey seven years ago. Solis: “At an amateur tournament in 2000 I lost the final against reigning World Champion Ruslan Chagaev although I was the better man. That will not happen again. I want a clear decision against Alex Mazikin.”
