However, late in the first round with Dyer appearing to be already exhausted, Rodriguez landed a left to the head, the a left-right combination to Dyersís midsection, and then a huge right hand that staggered Dyer, and then followed with a left hand that dropped him to the canvas with only seconds to go before the end of the round.
Dyer made it to his feet and was able to continue on, but he looked to be in bad shape as he went to his corner as the round ended shortly after.
In the 2nd round, Rodriguez immediately resumed dishing out punishment to Dyer, as he quickly landed a right hand and three lefts to the head, which staggered Dyer. Shortly after that, Dyer made a clumsy attempt at landing a left hand, but Rodriguez ducked the shot and then spun Dyer off of him, causing him to fall to the canvas. The referee mistakenly called this a knockdown, although it didnít matter much because Dyer was still badly hurt at the time and this at least gave him a minute to recoup.
Dyer, badly hurt and looking groggy, staggered to his feet, and the bout continued on for a little while longer. Rodriguez then came forward and landed a huge straight left hand that snapped Dyerís head back, causing him to bend over as if he were trying to clear his head. Then Dyer straightened up and turned his back on Rodriguez and walked away, as if indicating he didnít want to fight any longer. Seeing this, the referee stepped in and halted the bout at 0:25 of the 2nd round.
Rodrgiuez, from El Paso, at this point he still hasnít fought anyone of note, but the opposition thatís been put in front of him, bad as it is, heís mowed down in an impressive fashion. Add to that, his awesome power, and size, 6í5Ē 240, which make him a very real threat to any heavyweight in the near future.
