Joel Julio vs Cornelius Bundrage set for July 11
BLOOMFIELD, NJ (July 6, 2007) – Welterweight contender Joel Julio returns to the ring on July 11 in a special Wednesday edition of “Friday Night Fights,” it was announced today by Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. Julio will challenge Cornelius Bundrage of “The Contender” in a 10 round contest from the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles, CA. ESPN2’s broadcast will begin at 11:00 pm ET..
Julio (31-1, 29 KO’s) has won his last four bouts. The 22-year-old Monteria, Colombian native has stopped 15 opponents within the first two rounds. In 2005 he was selected as 2005’s “Prospect of the Year” by numerous media outlets, including ESPN.com. In his last bout on May 16, 2007, Julio destroyed Mauro Lucero in one round (KO 1)
Bundrage (26-2, 15 KO’s) has won his last three bouts. The 34-year-old Detroit, MI native reached the semi-finals of “The Contender” in 2006, where he lost a decision to Steve Forbes (L 5). In his last bout on March 30, 2007, Bundrage stopped Colin McNeil in seven rounds as part of “The Contender Challenge: UK vs. USA” fight card (TKO 7).
