06.07.07 - By Scott Frake: Lightweight Nate Campbell (31-5-1, 25 KOs) had little problems tonight with Wilson Alcorro (35-8-3, 23 KOs), stopping him in the 6th round of a scheduled 10-round bout at the Florida State Fairgrounds Hall, in Tampa, Florida.

From the start, Campbell, 35, backed up Alcorro, landing big right hands. Alcorro, 33, fought back fiercely but was beaten back every time by the more powerful Campbell, who kept pumping in right hands. Although badly outclassed, Alcorro tried to take the fight to Campbell best as he could, backing him up against the ropes where he was able to land some decent body shots.
However, in the 5th round, Alcorro lost a point due to a punch that strayed low. In the sixth round, Campbell landed a picture perfect right hand that badly stunned Alcorro, who at that point was out on his feet and helpless. Wasting little time, Campbell finished him off with a powerful right hook that crashed off Alcorro’s jaw, sending him to the canvas. The referee then quickly stepped in and halted the bout.
With the win, Campbell, the # 1 challenger for the IBF lightweight title held by Julio Diaz, hopes to get a title shot in the near future.
