Hopkins Decisions Wright!
21.07.07 - By Ron Hansen: Boxing great, Bernard Hopkins (48-4-1, 32 KOs), once again showed his ring expertise as he out-slugged the jab-master Winky Wright (51-4-1) over the course of their 12-round bout tonight at the Mandalay Bay Events center in Las Vegas, Nevada, winning a unanimous decision. Hopkins was clearly the bigger of two, and both his size and his power were big problems for Wright, who was unable to control the fight as usual due to Hopkins’ superior size and boxing ability.

Wright was cut over his left eye by a head-butt in the 3rd round, and instead of forgetting about it and staying focused, Wright appeared overly concerned with the eye, and complained bitterly to the referee, even when it was apparent that it was getting him nowhere.
For the most part, Wright's doom was sealed after this round, because he spent much of the fight looking like a bitter victim, as he he'd been wronged by the fact that the referee hadn't taken a point away from Hopkins.
In the meantime, Hopkins was ever the professional, working over Wright’s face with his jab and right hands, and homing in on the cut whenever possible. Hopkins continued to punish Wright for the remainder of the bout, tagging him with powerful right hands, while taking his fair share of jabs from Wright. However, the jabs were no match for Hopkins' blistering right hand, as it turned out in the long run. The final judges’ scores were 117-111, 117-111 and 116-112, for Hopkins.
