James Oyebola Now Brain Dead; To Be Taken off Life Support

oyebolaFormer British heavyweight champion James Oyebola will have his life support machine switched off on Friday. Oyebola, 47, was shot in the head at close range in a London nightclub after asking three men to stop smoking in the early hours of Monday morning. His solicitor, Scott Ewing, said he was being kept alive so family members could pay their last respects.

"He is being artificially kept alive for members of the family to pay their last respects. But there's no chance, none whatsoever."

Oyebola, who was born in Lagos, won 18 of his 23 fights as a professional and was a bronze medallist at the 1986 Commonwealth Games. He retired in 1996 after winning the WBC international heavyweight title in 1993.
