27.07.07 - By Jeff Bastasini: Highly hyped undefeated welterweight prospect Andre Berto (19-0, 16 KOs) was knocked down in the 6th round of his 10-round bout with the tough Cosme Rivera (30-11, 21 KOs). However, Berto, 23, rallied to win by 10-round decision. Still badly hurt from the knockdown, which occurred shortly before the end of the round when Rivera connected with a powerful left hook, Berto made it out of the round on shaky legs. It didn't appear that he would have made it if there was more time left in the round, however, because he was very hurt.

In between rounds, however, Berto's corner decided to change one of his gloves, a move that extended the amount of time in the corner and gave the badly hurt Berto extra time to recover.
The move paid off, even if it didn't appear to be fair, as Berto was able to retake command of the fight in rounds seven through ten. However, Rivera, despite losing the fight, he exposed Berto by showing that his defense and chin are both questionable. The final scores were 97-92, 98-91, 98-91.
