Regina Halmich defeats Rodriguez - Menzer, Sahin also keep belts
Female boxing legend Regina Halmich (53-1-1, 16 KOs) successfully defended her WIBF flyweight world championship with a ten round unanimous decision over top-five challenger Wendy Rodriguez (18-4-3, 3 KOs) on Saturday night's big "Universum Champions Night" at the Burg-Wächter Castello in Düsseldorf, Germany. Halmich boxed beautifully to compile a one-sided 98-93, 96-95, 98-93. Halmich plans to retire later this year after one more fight..
Earlier WIBF featherweight world champion Ina Menzer (18-0, 8 KOs) defended her belt with a 99-92, 99-91, 100-90 unanimous decision over Jazmin Rivas La Rusita (17-5, 8 KOs). Menzer was too fast and too skilled for her game 19-year-old foe. Also, WIBF jr. flyweight world champion Julia Sahin Sunshine (19-0, 2 KOs) kept her belt with a 97-93, 98-92, 96-95 unanimous nod over Delia Lopez (8-2-2, 4 KOs).
Cruiserweight contender Grigory Drozd (27-1, 21 KOs) got back in the title picture with a one-sided unanimous decision over Jean Claude Bikoi (14-5-1, 8 KOs) in a twelve rounder for the WBO Asia Pacific title. Drozd dropped Bikoi in the opening seconds and went on to a 120-106 victory on all cards.
Unbeaten Lukas Wilaschek (18-0, 6 KOs) outpointed Fawaz Nasir (11-2, 6 KOs) in a hard fought ten rounder for the International German super middleweight belt by scores of 96-94, 97-94, 96-95.
Rounding out the action, unbeaten Olympian super featherweight Vitali Tajbert (12-0, 5 KOs) stopped Younes Amrani (5-11, 3 KOs) at 1:00 of round seven, unbeaten heavyweight Dieter Roth (14-0, 9 KOs) destroyed Viktor Szalai (3-3-1, 2 KOs) at 2:42 of round three, and the second pro fight of heavyweight Vladimir Tereshkin (2-0, 2 KOs) lasted 45 seconds as the former amateur star bombed out Krisztian Juhasz (2-2).
