Caballero decisions Lacierva!

caballero04.08.07 - By Gary Jones: WBA super bantamweight champion Celestino Caballero (27-2, 18 KOs) had a tougher than expected time tonight against Jorge Lacierva (32-7-6, 22 KOs), grinding out a grueling 12-round decision victory tonight at the Dodge Arena, in Hildago, Texas. Early on, Lacierva, 29, was able to land his right hand with effectiveness as Caballero, 31, opted to trade with him on the inside.

However, as the fight progressed, the southpaw Caballero used his long jab followed by a beautiful straight left hand to pull away from the much shorter Lacierva and finish in a commanding fashion. The final judges' scores were 115-112, 116-111, 116-110, awarding the decision victory to Caballero.

Unfortunately, the bout was plagued by fouls, as Lacierva had a point taken away in the sixth round for a low blow. However, the fouls also were coming from Caballero as well, since he was repeatedly warned for clinching.
