Theophane would treasure a fight with Graham Earl

With everyone in the lightweight division calling out Amir Khan, it seems strange that Ashley 'Treasure' Theophane would rather take on Graham Earl. Earl, recently turned down a fight with Jon Thaxton but seems to want Amir Khan. Earl is due to have a warm-up fight on October 6th and Theophane nicknamed 'Treasure' wants to be in the opposite corner. Why is this?

"I respect Graham as a fighter and if he is serious about fighting Amir Khan, I am the perfect so called warm up opponent. If he can't beat me, he has no place being in a ring with Khan," Theophane told BBN from New York yesterday.

Theophane who beat Alan Bosworth in a light-welterweight British title eliminator in January, but seems to have been overlooked by the British Board of Control since that date when it comes to a shot at the title, is looking to move down a weight to take on Earl.

"Graham is ex-British and Commonwealth champion and fought for the WBO belt so he is world class but I feel he has had his time and it is my time now. Will he get in the ring with me, I doubt it.

"He'll make some excuse about being out of my class as Bosworth did. But he was scheduled to fight Daniel Thorpe so he isn't aiming too high.

"I am in New York now but I am willing to cut short my trip to gatecrash the lightweight scene and retire another fighter.

"Up to you Graham Earl and Sports Network."

It would be an interesting fight as they were both trained by Johnny Eames and Peter Swinney before Graham parted company with them, after disputing the stoppage loss to Michael Katsidis
