18.08.07 - By Jeff Bastasini: Heavyweight David Tua (48-3-1, 41 KOs) wasted little time tonight stopping former light heavyweight Saul Montana (48-15, 42 KOs) with a sensational knockout in the 1st round of a scheduled 10-round bout at the South Town Exhibition Center, in Sandy, Utah.

Showing both speed and combinations, Tua, 34, landed a series of huge shots in the first round culminating with a couple monstrous left hooks that sent Montana to the canvas in a heap. Montana, however, looked badly out of shape and terrified from the moment the fight got underway. Tua, who has been plagued with weight problems for the past six years, came into the bout at 237 lbs, the lowest weight for him since 2001.
With this win, hopefully Tua will finally step it up against a higher level fighter in his next bout. He certainly looked excellent, showing glimpses of the same speed and power that took out fighters like Oleg Maskaev and John Ruiz in the 90s.
