Johanneson And Michael Gomez Clash Head To Head

Carl Johanneson and Michael Gomez went face to face at earlier this week at an explosive press conference at Doncaster, England's Rockingham Arms Hotel. British super-featherweight champion Johanneson arrived in the back of a horse drawn cart with promoter Frank Maloney. As soon as they arrived, former British champion Gomez was out of the hotel and tried to get up in the cart and intimidate Johanneson with both fighters having to be pulled apart by Gomez’s trainer Bobby Rimmer and Maloney..

In a highly charged press conference, both fighters promised to end the other’s career by knocking them out and that the loser would then have nowhere to go.

Gomez was adamant that he had not lost his title in the ring and that he would do the same to Johanneson as he did to current WBO champion Alex Arthur, who he stopped in five rounds to win the title in 2003.

Johanneson, who was more vocal than in past press conferences, said that Gomez had it right that the fight would not go the distance – but it would be he, Johanneson, that came out on top.

Gary Reid and John Fewkes also squared up for their eight rounder, which is a classic fight between a puncher and a perfect boxer.

Frank Maloney Promotions presents ‘Nowhere 2 Run, Nowhere 2 Hide’ at the Doncaster Dome, Doncaster, England on October 19 and will be televised live on Sky TV. Tickets are priced at £75 and £35 and are available by logging onto www.frankmaloney.com or by calling the Box Office at 0871 226 1508. For any further press information please call 02086914165.
