Mesi Destroys Miller in 1st round TKO

12.10.07 - By Scott Frake: Former heavyweight boxing contender Joe Mesi (36-0, 29 KOs) destroyed an overmatched Shannon Miller (15-4, 9 KOs) tonight in the 1st round at the Twin River Event Center, in Lincoln, Rhode Island. Mesi, 33, making his seventh appearance after being suspended two years for a diagnosed brain bleed, came out strong in the first round, ripping powerful hooks to the head and body and driving the 33-year old Miller back with every shot.

It didn't take long for Mesi to put an end to it, tagging the hopelessly outclassed Miller with a right hand and dropping him to the canvas. The referee Joey Lopino quickly moved in and halted the bout at 2:51 of the 1st round.

Since returning from his suspension in 2006, Mesi has shown little inclination to step it up against better competition. For his part, Miller proved to be no better than the handful of B-level fighters that Mesi had feasted on in his comeback, despite Miller having a little better record than the others.
