04.06.04 - The International Boxing Hall of Fame announced today reigning undisputed welterweight champion of the world Cory "The Next Generation" Spinks will be in Canastota for the 15th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Weekend, June 10-13th. Spinks, the son of heavyweight champion Leon Spinks and nephew of light heavyweight and heavyweight champion Michael Spinks, won the vacant USBA welterweight title in 2001 before winning the IBF welterweight title in 2003.

On December 12, 2003, Spinks unified the welterweight championships when he scored a 12-round win over WBA/WBC champion Ricardo Mayorga. He successfully defended his unified titles with a 12-round win over Zab Judah on April 10th. Spinks, whose record is 33-2 (10KOs), looks to defend his championship later this summer.
"Cory Spinks is continuing the great fighting tradition of the Spinks family," said Hall of Fame director Edward Brophy. "This will be his first visit to Canastota and the fans are really looking forward to it."
The June 10-13th Hall of Fame Induction Weekend will feature over 20 exciting events including a banquet, parade, golf tournament, boxing autograph card show, breakfast, cocktail party, professional boxing show, and the official induction ceremony honoring the Class of 2004. New inductees to be honored are super featherweight champion Azumah Nelson, welterweight champion Carlos Palomino, light heavyweight champion Dwight Muhammad Qawi, super bantamweight champion Daniel Zaragoza, referee Stanley Christodoulou, promoter J Russell Peltz, and journalist W.C. Heinz. Posthumous inductees will also be honored.
Over 50 boxing stars, including Marvelous Marvin Hagler, Jake LaMotta, Ken Norton, Emile Griffith, Ken Buchanan, Angelo Dundee, Aaron Pryor, Jeff Fenech, Gene Fullmer, Danny "Little Red" Lopez, Leon Spinks, Alexis Arguello and Canastota's Carmen Basilio are scheduled to participate in weekend festivities.
