Hopkins Agrees To Fight

04.06.04 - Middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins changed his mind about his previous demand for a referee change Friday, saving a high paying fight card with Oscar De La Hoya. Right before the scheduled weigh-in for Saturday's doubleheader, Hopkins decided after all to have referee Joe Cortez do his title defense with Robert Allen. Hopkins had threatened to pull out of the fight on Thursday night after he learned that Joe Cortez would be the referee for the fight. He believed that Joe Cortez couldn't be a fair referee, although he had never actually worked any of his fights.
