Sturm shows no respect for De La Hoya at the weigh-in

04.06.04 – One day prior to the biggest fight of his life WBO middleweight champion Felix Sturm, 20-0 (9), was showing no respect for his idol Oscar de la Hoya, 36-3 (29), during Friday’s weigh-in. The 25-year-old German was posing self-confident and cocky in front of a large number of journalists, photographers and television teams and several hundred fans inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena where the fightcard will take place tomorrow. While posing side-by-side with his opponent Sturm shook his index finger as if he wanted to make clear that de la Hoya’s hunt for fame in new weightclasses may end tomorrow night.

The 31-year-old former five-time world champion, however, stepped on the scales without taking off his shirt. Whether he wanted to hide his new muscular middleweight body or perhaps a soft mid section can only be found out tomorrow.

Both competitors had no problem to stay inside the limit. Sturm and de la Hoya both weighed in at the class limit of 160 pounds.

The same was true for Bernard Hopkins (159 pounds) and Robert Allen (160 pounds) who will fight for the WBC, WBA and IBF titles in the same weight class at MGM Grand.
