German Boxing: Öner Attackers Sentenced To Jail
26.10.07 - Four of the ten goons who attacked arena-CEO Ahmet Öner and two of his attendants at a Universum-fight night on May 19th had to appear before a court in Hamburg today. The members of the “special security crew” who had been hired by Klaus-Peter Kohl via his security manager Thomas Pütz were sentenced to were sentenced to imprisonment from 7 months (on probation) to 2 years (without probation) because of extremely dangerous “joined grievous bodily harm”..

Thomas Pütz, head of “Pütz Security AG” admitted that Klaus-Peter Kohl gave him order to hire ten additional security staff members who should look “extremely big and mean”.
arena-CEO Ahmet Öner: “The trial proved who is the offender and who is the victim of the attack. Things like that should not happen at any ringside anywhere in the world. That damages boxing itself. I hope the judgement puts an end to the whole story. We want to concentrate on the sport.”
arena’s sportive campaign continues this Tuesday in Florida when Cuban Olympic Champions Yan Barthelemy and Yuriorkis Gamboa give their US-debuts at Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, Florida. Gamboa faces strong Brazilian Adailton de Jesus (19-2-0, 17 kos). Öner: “That will be the hardest test Gamboa had to take so far.”
