Dino Duva Fined And Suspended

29.10.07 - Matt Hurley: New York State Athletic Commission chairman Ron Scott Stevens fined promoter Dino Duva $10,000 and suspended him for six months for leaving his seat during the Samuel Peter – Jameel McCline fight at Madison Square Garden on October 6th and looking at the scorecard of a judge after every round following the second. Duva left his seat and peered over the shoulder of New York Deputy Commissioner Michael Pascale who was keeping the master scorecard after each round.. Duva tabulated the score and then allegedly tried to relay information to Peter and his corner. Despite repeated warnings by commission members to stop leaving his seat Duva continued for several rounds before ceasing, prompting the ruling.

Duva insists he did not relay any information to the corner and was just, “caught up in the moment.”

Peter, who won the heavyweight bout for the interim World Boxing Council championship by a unanimous decision, hit the canvas once in the second round and twice in the third round. McCline has since appealed the decision with the WBC in hopes of securing a rematch.

Duva will probably appeal the suspension. Should the penalty stand he will be bared from participating in Peter’s February 2nd fight against Oleg Maskaev, which is also scheduled to take place at Madison Square Garden. Duva co-promotes Peter with Don King.
