Boxing Updates: Klitschko - Ibragimov Official For Feb 23 At MSG, Tyson Back To Jail, More

18.11.07 - By Matthew Hurley: Mike Tyson was sentenced Monday to 24 hours in jail and three years' probation for drug possession and driving under the influence. Tyson pled guilty in September to charges filed after being stopped by police at a traffic light for driving erratically. Police discovered a disheveled Tyson wiping white powder off the dashboard of his car and subsequently found a bag of cocaine on his person..

IBF Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko will face WBO Champion Sultan Ibragimov on February 23 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Devis Boschiero, 20-0 with 10 KOs won the WBA Intercontinental super featherweight title Friday night in Italy by disqualification over Fabrizio Trotta, 9-3-2 with 4 KOs. Trotta tried to start fast but Boschiero initiated a wicked body attack that forced Trotta to repeatedly hold. In the seventh round the referee halted the contest for repeated holding.

Carlos Baldomir, 43-11-6 with 13 KOs, last seen losing a unanimous decision to Vernon Forrest for the vacant World Boxing Council junior middleweight belt has waved off retirement and will return to the ring against Luciano Perez, 15-6-1 with 13 KOs at the Morongo Casino Resort And Spa on Friday, November 23. On the undercard Bobby Pacquiao, 27-13-3 with 12 KOs, last seen losing by knockout to Humberto Soto will take on Fernando Trejo, 30-12 with 18 KOs. The card will be televised on Telefutura.

World Boxing Association featherweight champion Chris John, 40-0-1 with 21 KOs will defend his title for the ninth time against Roinet Caballero, 22-7-1 with 16 KOs at the Senayan Indoor Stadium in Jakarat Raya, Indoniesia on January 26th.

Fernando Vargas, 26-4 with 22 KOs will take on Ricardo Mayorga, 28-6-1 with 23 KOs at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California for the vacant World Boxing Council Continental Americas super middleweight title. The bout will be telecast on Showtime pay per view. Tickets are still available for the event which begins at three pm. The televised broadcast starts at seven pm Pacific Time.
