According to Chamber’s promoter Dan Goossen the fight is all but a done deal. “We’re very close,” he told reporter Dan Rafael. It’s a tough match for both fighters. They both have everything on the line but it’s good for the sport.”
In his last fight Povetkin, a 2004 Olympic super heavyweight gold medal winner, defeated American Chris Byrd by stoppage in the eleventh round of a hard fought bout in Germany. Byrd commended Povetkin after the fight and said that he would one day be a champion.
Chambers last fought on November 2nd, registering a split decision victory over Calvin Brock.
According to Goossen the specter of fighting in Germany will not deter his fighter psychologically. “We knew it was a good possibility it could end up in Germany, but Eddie is the kind of fighter who believes that it doesn’t matter where the ring is when everything is said and done. He’s prepared to win wherever the ring is.”
