Three European championships on July 17 Universum event
15.06.04 - Universum Box-Promotion’s first summer event 2004 will host three European championship contests and is located in Zwickau in the east of Germany. In the main event Thomas Ulrich, 26-1 (18), is fighting against Italian Silvio Branco in a contest for the European light heavyweight title vacated by Ulrich’s stable mate Stipe Drews.

Ulrich and Branco were already lined up to meet in February of 2003 but the German had to withdraw due to an injury shortly before fight time. Branco, 49-7-2 (30), meanwhile held the WBA light heavyweight world title since October 2003 until he was beaten by Fabrice Tiozzo in March of this year.
Former European champion Stipe Drews made this fight possible because he set his sights on a WBC world title eliminator this summer and vacated his EBU championship belt.
In two other European championship contests Sergej Dzindziruk and Mamadou Thiam will battle for the vacant belt at super welterweight, whereas Michel Trabant challenges EBU welterweight king Frederic Klose.
“The winner of the fight between Ulrich and Branco may get a world title shot this year”, Jean-Marcel Nartz of Universum Box-Promotion said. “This is making this duel even more interesting.”
