Caballero Stops Pastrana
02.12.07 - By Scott Frake: World Boxing Association super bantamweight champion Celestino Caballero (28-2, 19 KOs) stopped challenger Mauricio Pastrana (34-8-2, 22 KOs) on Saturday night at the Gimnasio Roberto Duran, in Panama City, Panama. Caballero, 31, had little trouble with Pastrana, dominating every round of the fight against his much shorter opponent. Using his long jab and powerful right hand, Caballero punished Pastrana from long range, rarely allowing him within in punching range. The fight was stopped at 0:53 in the 8th round with Pastrana taking tremendous punishment from Caballero.

Pastrana, 34, a former International Boxing Federation light flyweight champion, was giving up eight inches in height to the 5’11” Caballero, making it difficult to get in close without eating repeated jabs and right hands in the process. For Caballero, this was his 4th title defense since winning the WBA super bantamweight belt in February 2006. Caballero holds a previous win unanimous decision victory in February 2005 over Daniel Ponce De Leon, now the WBO super bantamweight champion.
