Tarver vs. Lacy?

03.12.07 - By Nathan King: According to earlier boxing reports, there have been talks of a possible bout between Antonio Tarver and Jeff Lacy, assuming that Lacy (22-1, 17 KO) is victorious in his December 8th showdown with Peter Manfredo Jr. The fight, at this time, seems to be tentatively scheduled for an unknown April date..

Tarver (26-4, 19 KO) is coming off of an impressive fourth round stoppage over Danny Santiago this past Saturday. Tarver has already indicated that he wanted a match with Lacy, and has also stated that he hopes Lacy beats Manfredo on December 8th in impressive fashion.

About Lacy’s fight with Manfredo and their possible and probable showdown, Tarver had to say this: “Manfredo’s a tough guy, a very tough guy. With Jeff, I don’t know which Jeff is left. We haven’t seen much. He fought that one guy (Vitali Tsypko) after he lost to Calzaghe, and you can’t really put a feather in his cap to say he was back. You never know the lasting effects of a 12-round domination like that — psychologically and physically. So hopefully Jeff will bounce back, and he can show the world what we want to see (against Manfredo) and maybe he’ll be ready for me in April.”

The plan is to schedule the bout as a doubleheader on the same night that WBC light heavyweight champion Chad Dawson defends his crown against veteran Glen Johnson. Assuming Dawson and Tarver win, a match would hopefully be set up between those two later in the year.
